Charlottenlund, Denmark

Valdemar's nursery is light and airy and filled with a wonderful mix of vintage finds, new objects and things passed on from his parents and grandparents.

Almost everything in here has a story – from the old truck inherited from Valdemar's great-great-grandfather, to the faded books that were read to Valdemar's mother when she was a little girl.

This is a charming, quirky and at the same time classic room, with fun details for Valdemar now and for years to come.

The custom built shelf/nook makes for a cosy little place by the window, where Valdemar's Juno bed fits right in. In the window sits the Moon Lamp, and a papier-mâché bear hangs on the wall.

On the shelf is a Paris Mobile, Otto the Elephant and Palle Alene i Verden – one of the classic picture books out now in a new edition from Gyldendal.

Valdemar's grandmother has saved all children's books from when Valdemar's mother was little. Over time, they've faded in colour and pages have crinkled. Now they are placed here in Valdemar's room.

The little wooden bear is designed by Kay Bojesen.

Valdemar may climb on the custom built storage piece and play in the nook above once he is old enough. For now, it is used as a shelf.

Seen here: Babar Parachute poster in an oak frame, Midi storage boxes, Otto the Elephant, Paris standing mobile and Beneath the Moon baby booties.

The rattan pendant was found on Etsy, and the chair was found vintage. They both add a lovely atmosphere to the room.

Also seen here: A large raffia zoo basket is used to store toys, a papier-mâché mask hangs on the wall, and Palle Alene i Verden book sits on the shelf.

A look inside Valdemar's crib, and here lies a knitted whale, a sky blue bibs pacifier and the new edition of the classic book Aben Osvald by Egon Mathiesen.

Aben Osvald was first published in 1947, and has now been republished with original cover and canvas spine – in great company with other classic children's picture books. Find them all here.

The quilt on the wall adds colours and a sense of softness. It was given to Valdemar from his great-grandmother.

Here, by the window, is a little table & chair set in oak that Valdemar is still too little to use, but soon he will be standing up and playing at the table.

On the table is the Light House Lamp, and in the window hangs the Five Balloons Mobile.

"Okker Gokker Gummi Klokker" and other rhymes, that most of us Danes know by heart.

The rug is from Mini Knots, and the red push wagon is from Brio (find an alternative push wagon here).

Light coming through the window and shining onto the oak Curve Chair and Curve Table.

On the table, next to the Light House Lamp, lies a wooden animal puzzle. On the floor sits a small raffia party animals storage basket.

The old truck is inherited and passed on from Valdemar's great-great-grandfather – still intact and fully functioning.

"I love the fact that my parents read these books for me when I was a child, and that I know read the exact same stories to my own children."

– Caroline, Valdemar's mom

The Paris standing mobile is a wonderful gifting item. Palle Alene i Verden with its original cover, and bound with a high quality canvas spine, is another great gifting item for a birthday, christening – or just because.

The vintage chair is used a night time once Valdemar is ready for bed. Here, he and his mom or dad will sit and read a book, sing a song and say goodnight before he is put down in his crib.

On the wall hangs a papier-mâché bear, and in the window are little cars. The guitar is from Konges Sløjd.
